Looking for sun in winter? 5 destinations for a city break in November and December

Winter in Poland often brings to mind cold, shorter days, and overcast weather — but does it always have to be that way? For those dreaming of a bit of sunshine and wanting to escape the gray everyday life for a moment, November and December are the perfect time to plan a short city break from Gdańsk.

Thanks to the convenient location of Hotel Milo Gdańsk Airport, just minutes from the terminal, you can start your journey without rush or stress. Just park your car at the hotel, spend the night in a comfortable room, and in the morning head straight to the airport. This is the ideal solution for those planning a weekend getaway from Gdańsk or a short winter holiday.

From Gdańsk-Rębiechowo airport there are many connections available — both direct and with transfers. It is worth taking advantage of this time when ticket prices are often lower, and popular destinations are less crowded.

Below you will find five destination suggestions that offer pleasant temperatures, sunny weather, and a unique atmosphere in November and December — perfect for relaxing before the holidays or a spontaneous city break.

Destination Proposals

1. Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain)

Why Tenerife?
In November/December Tenerife often reaches temperatures around 20-24 °C, making it one of the warmest European destinations in winter.
It is an excellent place for a mix: daytime strolls through picturesque towns, sightseeing, light hikes – and if the weather is right, swimming in the sea might even be possible.
Additionally, Tenerife has good tourist infrastructure, charter flights, and relatively good connections with European hubs, allowing travel from Poland with one transfer.

What to see and do:
– Teide volcano and National Park for walks
– Picturesque villages, e.g. La Orotava, Garachico
– Walks along the cliffs of the northern coast
– In the cultural season — local markets, music, small festivals

2. Madeira (Portugal)

Why Madeira?
It is an oceanic island that maintains pleasant temperatures (around 18-23 °C) in winter and has a mild climate all year round. Because of this, even in December, you can expect days full of light and comfort.
Although there are not many direct flights from Gdańsk to Madeira, charter offers or flights with a transfer through Portugal/Spain often appear. Additionally, Madeira is a paradise for nature lovers – mountains, cliffs, lava hiking trails, and breathtaking views.

What to see and do:
– Levada — a network of water walking trails
– Viewpoints (e.g. Cabo Girão, Ponta de São Lourenço)
– Capital Funchal with gardens, markets, and local cuisine
– Observation cruises (dolphins, whales)

3. Crete (Greece)

Why Crete?
In Southern Europe, in November, Crete can still offer temperatures of 15-21 °C — warm enough for sightseeing, walks, and relaxing on the terrace. It is a great compromise between a Mediterranean climate and flight availability.
Some airlines offer seasonal flights to Greece, which facilitates access (sometimes with a transfer). Besides, Crete is rich in history, culture, and beautiful landscapes.

What to see and do:
– Knossos Palace ruins
– Heraklion Museum
– Picturesque towns Chania, Rethymno
– Waters and bays less crowded than in summer

4. Malta (Valletta)

Why Malta?
Malta is often mentioned as one of the warmest places in Europe in November — temperatures around 20 °C. It may be cooler in December but still pleasant for walks and sightseeing.
It is an island with a rich history, Mediterranean climate, and compact size — ideal for a short city break with a large dose of culture.

What to see and do:
– Valletta: capital, fortifications, cathedrals
– Mdina – “peace and quiet” in medieval style
– Comino and Gozo islands for day trips
– Walks along the coast and bays

5. Marbella / Andalusia (Spain)

Why Andalusia / Marbella?
Marbella and the Costa del Sol region offer mild winters, with December temperatures often reaching 17-20 °C. It is an excellent option if you want to combine city, beach, and relaxation.
From airports in Spain (e.g. Malaga), there are good connections to many European cities, facilitating access from Poland. Marbella offers an elegant atmosphere, promenades, good restaurants, and beach access even off-season.

What to see and do:
– Old Town (Casco Antiguo) with narrow streets
– Paseo Marítimo and marina
– Alternatively: trips to Ronda, Mijas, Malaga
– Atmospheric cafes, local cuisine, relaxation

November and December do not have to be synonymous with grayness and stagnation. It is the perfect time for a spontaneous city break — fewer crowds, interesting prices, and often pleasant weather in southern and island destinations.

If you are planning a stay at our hotel (hotel name), let us know — we will be happy to help choose a destination, propose tours, or offer a "warm city break" package.
